MANAGER Nathan Jones suggested Charlton will attempt to sign James Bree permanently from Saints upon the conclusion of his loan deal in January.
Bree, 27, linked back up with Jones at a third club on deadline day when he joined the Addicks on a short-term loan, and has enjoyed success under the Welsh coach.
The right-back, who was ineligible to face Saints when Charlton lost 5-1 on Saturday, has hit two goals and three assists in 11 games for his loan club.
Jones would like to extend his relationship with Bree beyond the midway point of the season, although his chances of doing so could hinge on fitness at Saints.
Mads Roerslev and Elias Jelert, both signed to replace Bree, are currently out with injury, forcing Tom Fellows to start at wing-back.
"James Bree is an excellent player. I've taken James Bree to every club I've been at, and he's been excellent for me," Jones told the Daily Echo .
"All I can comment on is what he does for me and how he plays for me. He's been excellent for me. He's an outstanding footballer.
"He's a good athlete. He knows how I play. I enjoy working with him. He's been fantastic for me. I've no idea what happens at Staplewood when I wasn't there."
Asked if he would like to sign Bree permanently in January, Jones added: "Well, look, I've signed him everywhere I've been, so I think that's self-explanatory."
