Carpinteria High baseball slugged its way to a 15-1 rout of Santa Clara on the road on Saturday.
The Warriors (2-0) opened the game with nine runs in the first two innings and never looked back en route to the victory.
"The players did a good job arriving, preparing, and then playing with a purpose," Carpinteria High head coach Pat Cooney said. "It's so early that we are still finding our identity as a group. So far, we like the effort and approach.
"The offense set the tone for the game so the pitchers had the opportunity to get their first innings of the season in with a little less pressure on them. The tempo was up so the defense was ready."
Aiden Alcaraz led a 17-hit outburst with a four-hit performance and three runs scored. Meanwhile, Sam Medel tallied three hits, including two doubles, and three RBI.
Gabe Martinez also had a big day with two hits, two RBI and four runs scored while Shayde Juarez, Charlotte Cooney and Jonah Hernandez roped two hits apiece.
Martinez also started the game for the Warriors, allowing just one hit in three innings of work. Alcaraz then took over for two innings of relief before Hernandez slammed the door with two scoreless and five strikeouts.
Carpinteria High will host Santa Clara for a rematch next Friday at John Calderwood Field.
