channelnews : Google Maps Power-saving Mode Available For Pixel 10 Line-Up

If you rely on a Pixel 10 phone for turn-by-turn navigation instead of a dedicated GPS unit, Google has introduced a new feature that could be especially useful. A Google Maps power-saving mode is now available for the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The company revealed the feature earlier this month as part of its November 2025 Pixel Drop.

The new mode is limited to portrait orientation and functions directly on the lock screen. By tapping the power button while using driving navigation, the interface switches to a simplified monochrome style that keeps only the essential map layer, as noted by 9to5Google. The visual design resembles the dark map view seen in the Uber app.

In this pared-back setup, Google Maps shows only the most important details for your trip, including your next turn and estimated travel time. Information such as your current speed is removed. Notifications remain accessible by swiping down. Pressing the power button again or tapping the screen returns you to the standard full-colour view. The mode also switches off automatically once you reach your destination.

Google claims that this power-saving mode can add up to four hours of additional battery life to the Pixel 10 line. That extra time may prove useful during long drives when charging options are limited. The reduced visual clutter might also help curb distracted driving by focusing your attention on core navigation details.

Although the feature is debuting exclusively on the Pixel 10 line-up, it will likely expand to other devices in the future. Some users may even hope to see this streamlined interface show up on the Android Auto version of Google Maps at some point.

The feature appears to be enabled by default through a server-side update. If you prefer not to use it, you can disable power-saving mode by opening Google Maps settings, navigating to Navigation, selecting Driving options, and turning off the relevant toggle.
