ICE "mistakenly" deported immigrant who worked for Trump for 10 years

ICE "mistakenly" deported immigrant who worked for Trump for 10 years

Disregarding due process, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported an immigrant who worked for 10 years at the Trump Organization, even though he was in a legal process before an immigration court.

This is Alejandro Juárez-Castillo, who was arrested a few days before a hearing in immigration court in New York. A few days later, he was sent to Matamoros, Mexico.

"Alejandro Juárez, who worked for President Trump for 10 years and is a personal friend of President Trump's son, Eric Trump, since he personally attended to the family, was sent to Mexico a few months ago without the opportunity to have an immigration hearing," accused attorney Aníbal Romero. "That is completely illegal, a violation of due process."

Romero said he learned that his client was in Mexico after he had already been deported to that country, where he is originally from, despite having a scheduled hearing before an immigration court.

"Imagine that one day I was waiting for my immigration hearing, and he called me from Mexico. I couldn't believe it. Immediately, when we appeared at the hearing, the judge had no idea what was happening," Aníbal added.

The lawyer shared that, during the hearing before the judge, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) acknowledged that it had made the mistake of sending Juárez-Castillo to Mexico and that it would return him, but there is no certainty that this will actually happen.

After expelling him, ICE told the Mexican man's lawyer that they did not have him in custody, when in reality, he was in Mexico.

"[DHS] told me he was still detained and on his way [to the hearing]. And I told them, no, he's in Mexico; someone made a mistake. We requested an extension," the lawyer added. "Then immigration called me [...] to apologize, saying yes, it had indeed been a mistake, that they had sent him to Mexico and wanted to bring him back to the United States."

It is unclear whether Juárez-Castillo will return soon. Still, for lawyer Romero, the error in this case shows how abuses are being committed to advance an immigration agenda of 3,000 deportations per day.

"[Immigration] has to follow a process, it has to follow the Constitution, it has to follow an established order," he said. "That number of arrests per day is going to cause collateral damage, it's going to cause mistakes."

Alejandro lived in New York for over 25 years. He was arrested on the street, then transferred to Arizona and, from there, to Mexico. He is the father of three children (one of whom is a U.S. Marine) and a former employee of the Trump Organization. He was in the process of applying for asylum.

His lawyer says that Alejandro attended his annual appointments, but on this occasion, he was arrested.

"No one is questioning that immigration can detain you if they want to. The problem isn't the detention itself, the problem is that once a person is detained, they have to be in the hands of an immigration judge so that the immigration judge can sign the deportation order," Romero asserted.

The lawyer, who practices in New York and has a YouTube channel where millions watch his videos, is surprised that his client is facing this process, despite his close ties to the Trump family.

"Returning to the country allows him to be with his family, which will enable us to begin the residency process. In that case, he would qualify for his residency (or Green Card), and then citizenship," the lawyer explained. "Alejandro speaks perfect English, he worked for the Trump family, as I mentioned before; he is a personal friend of Eric Trump; he is one of them."

A DHS official statement on this case was requested, but there has been no response so far.
