Young volunteers take the spotlight at Purple Party in Thornbury

YOUTH volunteers took centre stage at a special charity celebration in Thornbury.

JIGSAW Thornbury recently hosted their Purple Party at Thornbury Golf Centre, raising more than £2,600 to support its work with children and young people with additional needs or disabilities.

The event brought together staff, supporters and volunteers to mark the achievements of youth volunteers while promoting inclusion and raising vital funds for the charity.

The party featured youth-led activities, games, awards and speeches.

From welcoming guests and hosting, to sharing their JIGSAW Journeys, reading their poetry and running games, the youth volunteers showcased confidence and leadership.

Bonnie, JIGSAW Thornbury's community fundraising and participation lead, said: "I am incredibly proud of our youth volunteers and all they achieved.

"From those who worked innovatively behind the scenes to those who volunteered on the day to make it such a success, they were all inspiring examples of what young people with additional needs or disabilities can achieve when given the opportunity to thrive."

Seventeen youth volunteers helped organise and run the event and were given the chance to develop skills in public speaking, teamwork, event planning, creativity and self-confidence.

Liz, one of the guests, said: "It was lovely to see so many people supporting JIGSAW - it was clear how much effort had gone into making it special."

Community partners played a key role in the evening, including Rotary in Thornbury, and Bryant Associates and Wealth Management, as well as sponsors such as Oldbury Community Shop, H M Bristol Ltd, J C Electrics (Guildford) Limited, and Beech House Care Home.

In total, the event raised £2,625.62, which will go directly towards JIGSAW Thornbury's services supporting children and families.

The charity has seen a 78 per cent increase in the number of people attending over the past two years.

Luke from Brick and Block Parties Bristol, who donated to the raffle, said: "It was a fantastic evening and a very worth cause. I am very glad to be part of it."

The charity said the evening also had a lasting impact on the youth volunteers, helping them recognise the value of their contributions in the community.

JIGSAW Thornbury is now seeking new community and business partners to support future events.
