SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- Happy Wednesday, Utah! It's a be-Utah-ful afternoon across much of the state as high pressure is in place, bringing warmer air into the region.
Temperatures this afternoon are expected to be roughly 10 degrees warmer in the northern valleys. By Thursday, temperatures should climb another 5 degrees with increasing southwest flow.
By Friday, the ridge will keep things warm, with temperatures running 10-15 degrees above normal in most spots, though areas like the Uinta Basin will be closer to five degrees above average. Big changes arrive Saturday as an atmospheric river moves in, bringing significant weather impacts.
Heavy mountain snow is expected from Sunday through Monday, with rain in the valleys potentially transitioning to snow late Monday.
The Wasatch Back is likely to see the highest snow accumulation. Sunday will be the most active day, with moisture increasing, especially in northern mountains like the Wasatch and Uintas.
Valleys could see 0.25-0.75 inches of rain, while mountains may get 1-2 inches of water equivalent, which will likely equate to feet of snowfall. Snow levels will start around 6,500 feet on Saturday but drop later as colder air moves in.
After a brief lull on Monday, another system may arrive on Tuesday, bringing more mountain snow and possibly mixed precipitation in the valleys. Stay tuned.
