Indiana firefighter dies of apparent heart attack while getting ready to respond to mobile home fire

FARMLAND, Ind. -- An Indiana firefighter is dead after collapsing from a heart attack while in the line of duty.

Ridgeville Volunteer Fire Chief Gary Barnett told 13News 61-year-old Donald "Hev" Caylor died around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8 of an apparent heart attack while getting ready to respond to a mobile home fire.

Caylor was a firefighter with several departments over 40 years, Barnett said.

In a post on social media, the Farmland Volunteer Fire Department called Caylor a "devoted husband, father, firefighter and community servant."

"We respectfully request that you keep his family and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time," the department said.
