Kevin Smith's Re-Released 'Dogma' Acquired By Goodfellas For International Sales - Cannes Market

EXCLUSIVE: Goodfellas is getting behind Kevin Smith's mission to theatrically re-release his controversial 1999 religious satire Dogma, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as fallen angels, after a tumultuous launch first time round.

The maverick Paris-based sales company has acquired international rights to the remastered 4K edition of the film, which is screening in the Cannes Film Festival's Cannes Classics sidebar this year.

The Cannes splash follows Smith's announcement last October that he had gotten the rights back to the movie which had been out of his hands since the initial release. This acquisition was made by Triple Media Film in partnership with View Askew Productions.

Under the care of Triple Media Film, the film is fully remastered in 4K, and was supervised by Oscar-nominated director of photography Robert Yeoman, who was the cinematographer on Dogma, ahead of going to work on multiple films with Wes Anderson including The Grand Budapest Hotel.

" I am so pleased about the re-release of Dogma. I recently rewatched the film and it definitely holds up! The remaster looks great. Congratulations to Kevin and our cast and crew for making such a hilarious film," said Yeoman.

Dogma, is now due to be re-released on 1,500 screens in US and Canadian movie theaters on June 5, with Iconic Events.

Smith has also embarked on a sold out U.S. tour with his company Smodcast, backed by AMC Theatres, bannered, "DOGMA: The Resurrection Tour, A 25th Anniversary Celebration, with Kevin Smith". The tour sold out in its first 24hours.

"Sold out screenings, standing ovations, and now Cannes? This is beyond divine," said Smith. "To see Dogma honored as a Cannes Classic is a true blessing. Thanks to everyone who believed in this resurrection, and thank you to the fans who showed up, in pews full."

The director will touch down in Cannes, accompanied by Yeoman, with the remastered film, which will mark the first international date for the tour.

Affleck and Damon star in Dogma as Bartleby and Loki, two fallen angels who make their way to New Jersey for a loophole that will get them back to heaven. The film also features Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Jason Lee and Alanis Morissette, as well as Jason Mewes and Smith reprising their roles as Jay and Silent Bob.
