A Longmont man who reportedly sexually assaulted a girl in October was arrested on Saturday.
Angel Jesus Rodriguez, 25, is charged with sexual assault on a child - position of trust - victim between 15 and 18; and sexual exploitation of a child, according to court records.
He was released from custody Monday on a $50,000 bond and is set for a status conference on Thursday afternoon.
According to an affidavit, on Dec. 11, dispatchers received a report of a sexual assault on a child, which reportedly took place at an undisclosed house in Longmont.
A girl told dispatchers that she had been sexually assaulted by a man who she met on Snapchat in early October and said she did not know his name. She said she thought he was 25 years old.
Longmont detectives on Dec. 20 obtained Snapchat search warrants for what was later identified as Rodriguez's account.
The girl later told police that Rodriguez picked her up from her house and said "she did not want to have sex but felt trapped in the home due to not having transportation to leave," according to the affidavit.
The girl said that once Rodriguez picked her up in his Acura, she told him she was 16, in an interview she had with Blue Sky Bridge staffers. Blue Sky Bridge is a Boulder nonprofit group that focuses on child abuse intervention and education, according to its website. The girl also said that despite feeling uncomfortable and asking to go home on numerous occasions, the man said, "No, you're already here. This is happening," according to an affidavit.
After police obtained a second Snapchat search warrant for messages on Rodriguez's account in early January, they noted that the assault happened on Oct. 7.
When the girl didn't reply to his Snapchat messages, Rodriguez messaged her on Oct. 11, "I still got those videos h**. The girl responded, telling Rodriguez not to blackmail her, to which Rodriguez replied, "I wouldn't be asking if you just came and did it with me," according to the affidavit.
Police also noted in the affidavit that Rodriguez recorded the sexual assault and kept the videos on his phone.
Police used a warrant to search Rodriguez's residence and his mobile devices on Jan. 24. In an interview with officers, Rodriguez said that he vaguely remembered the girl but said that she didn't tell him her age.
When investigators stated that his Snapchat messages showed she told him she was 16, Rodriguez said that the girl told him she was 18 first and that "he thought she was messing with him," according to the affidavit. Rodriguez also told investigators that the sex was consensual and that the girl consented to being recorded.
After investigators said that it seemed like he was trying to blackmail the girl, Rodriguez responded that "he wasn't going to do anything with the videos" and that he was "pretty sure he never sent the videos to anyone," according to the affidavit.
