On Saturday, the Prophets of Persia traveled to the Dam Royal Palace in Amsterdam for the organization's 99th annual ball staged at The Orpheum Theater, depicting the 1809 royal reception ordered by King Louis I and Queen Hortense of Holland in honor of the Prince of Pontecorvo, Jean Bernadotte.
In 1806, Napoleon created the kingdom of Holland and installed his younger brother Louis on the Dutch throne. Louis' wife, Hortense de Beauharnais, became Holland's queen.
In August 1809, the British invaded Holland in support of their war against Napoleon. Prince Bernadotte, leading 80,000 troops, was dispatched from Paris to oppose the invaders. He thwarted the British, thus saving the kingdom. In celebration, the monarchs held a grand ball at the palace in Amsterdam. All Holland's nobility attended as well as the special honored guest, the victorious Bernadotte.
