SpaceX Loses Contact With Starship Ending In Spectacular Disaster; Netizens Hail The Booster Rocket Catch

Starship's eighth flight ended up in a spectacular disaster over the Bahamas, as SpaceX lost communication with the spacecraft.

Dubbed the world's most powerful launch vehicle, Starship tumbled, spinning out of control, and exploded with a fiery re-entry within minutes. The lift-off began at 6:30 ET from the company's rocket facilities in Boca Chica, Texas. During the live stream, a SpaceX spokesperson cheekily stated, "Unfortunately, this happened last time too, so we've got some practice now."

This is the second test mission in 2025 since January's eight-minute flight, which ended in a similar explosion and a rain of debris over the Caribbean Islands.

The SpaceX's Starship Flight 8 was earlier cancelled moments before the launch three days ago.

The mission failure also ended up being a disaster for its satellite deployment demonstration.

Meanwhile, not dismayed by the failure, SpaceX took to X/Twitter and remarked that, "With a test like this, success comes from what we learn, and today's flight will help us improve Starship's reliability." The aerospace company stated that it will conduct a thorough investigation of what went wrong with the launch. Earlier, the company used the term "rapid unscheduled disassembly."

However, the Mechazilla caught the super-heavy first-stage booster that lifted the 5,000-ton Starship to space.

American astronaut Don Pettit shared visuals from space showing the Starship 8 breakup in the upper atmosphere. Several users captured and shared visuals of the Starship 8 explosion from their vantage points.

Reactions poured in. Users took a jibe on the company's unusual way of communication: "Yet another rapid, unplanned disassembly of Starship? That's a fun way to say our shit exploded." One user suggested, "Please dispense with the cheeky "Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly" talk. It lost engines, you lost control and contact, it tumbled and exploded. Debris is falling onto inhabited islands right now. Again. Planes are diverting, Again. This shit is not funny."

Another netizen ranted, "Have you said thank you to American taxpayers today, who fund your life failures?" Yet another skeptic commented, "If you're keeping count, that's four Starship explosions out of eight attempts -- an impressive failure rate. Elon's philosophy seems to be the same for everything: blow it up, waste billions, and call it innovation." One irate user remarked, "Even Mars is telling you to fuck off."

Not everyone was skeptical and critical of the Starship 8 failure. Several users applauded Mechazilla's success. One user wrote, "Fabulous booster catch." Another wrote, "Progress is not always linear, and I know the SpaceX team will continue to iterate and improve Starship as humanity marches toward Mars."
