Dianne Buswell to make Strictly history after revealing pregnancy

Strictly Come Dancing's 2024 winner Dianne Buswell is going to be the first professional dancer to take part in the show while pregnant.

She is expecting a baby boy in 2026 with YouTube star Joe Sugg, whom she fell in love with while competing on Strictly in 2018. Last year, Buswell lifted the Glitterball trophy with comedian Chris McCausland on the BBC show.

The redhead, 36, announced her pregnancy over the weekend before starting the first day of Strictly rehearsals on Monday. Many of the Strictly family have publicly congratulated her, including head judge Shirley Ballas and pro dancer Johannes Radebe.

Celebrity partnerships are kept under wraps until the launch show on Saturday.

Motherhood has been on Buswell's mind. The dancer had previously shared she would love to have children but she admitted her job could be "demanding". She told The Sun in May: "I would like to have children, 100 per cent."

She added: "It is quite tough because my job is quite demanding, and I love it so much. It is a tough one to balance out and think about. It would take a lot of thought, but eventually one day we will get there, but there is lots happening at the moment. It will happen when it's supposed to."

In July, Buswell explained she would have a baby when the time was right.

She told Prima magazine: "We've always wanted kids, it's just finding the right time. I don't feel worried about taking time out from dancing, I just don't see the point in worrying. When everything aligns, it will happen. I have to have that vision. I like to practise manifestation, I'm quite spiritual."

There hasn't ever been a Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer who has competed on the show pregnant before.

In 2013, Erin Boag quit Strictly saying she wanted to focus on new challenges. In October of the same year, the professional dancer revealed she was pregnant and she had left the show to become a mum. Boag had been a professional dancer on the show since it begun in 2002.

She told The Mirror at the time: "I can't keep it covered up any longer. There's been much speculation about my absence from this year's Strictly Come Dancing, but I can now reveal the real reason why I turned it down.

"Yes, I'm truly excited and delighted to say I'm pregnant. It's such a relief to be able to tell all as it's been strictly mum's the word these past few months."

Baby Ewan was born on Boag's husband Peter O'Dowd's 50th birthday in May 2014. Boag recalled the moment she told Strictly bosses she was quitting the show.

"We went to see producers in early June and I said, 'Thank you very much, but no thank you,'" she told HELLO! in 2014. "It was a bit of a shock to them. It was sad, but I was ready. I'd done ten series -- it was a great time in my life."

HELLO! reported Janette Manrara quit her role as a professional dancer so she could try for a baby with her husband Aljaž Škorjanec. She left Strictly in 2021 to become a co-presenter on the show's spin off show It Takes Two.

Announcing their baby joy in HELLO! magazine in 2023, Manrara explained: "For the past couple of years we hadn't been using protection but nothing was happening, so we thought IVF was the next best thing for us to do...

"I turn 40 later this year [2023] and the NHS offers really good services to women under 40. The doctor said that as soon as I got my period we would start injections, but my period never came."

Manrara and Škorjanec are now parents to their two-year-old daughter Lyra.
