Bengaluru: Heavy rain Thursday left south and west Bengaluru battered, with 41 cases of tree falls, exposing the city's recurring infrastructure woes. The Integrated Command and Control Centre of the Greater Bengaluru Authority logged 103 rain-related complaints between 6am and 6pm, of which most were about tree falls.Bengaluru South City Corporation, covering Jayanagar, JP Nagar, BTM Layout, and Basavanagudi, topped the list with 15 tree falls. Roads at JP Nagar 6th Phase and Banashankari were blocked for hours, while residents of Jayanagar 4th Block reported stagnant water on roads. BTM Layout also experienced multiple branch collapses.Bengaluru West, spanning Rajajinagar, Vijayanagar, and Chandra Layout, recorded 15 tree falls and 10 branch collapses. A massive tree fall near Vijayanagar disrupted traffic towards Mysuru Road, while Rajajinagar and Basaveshwaranagar saw several streets cordoned off for clearance operations.In Bengaluru North, which includes Hebbal, Yelahanka, and RT Nagar, nine tree falls and 12 branch collapses were reported. At RT Nagar, clogged roadside drains added to the woes, leaving several stretches waterlogged.The Bengaluru Central, covering Shivajinagar, Malleswaram, and Richmond Town, reported relatively fewer cases -- two tree falls and six branch collapses -- but waterlogging at Shivajinagar and Vasanthnagar slowed down the traffic.The East Corporation, spanning Indiranagar, CV Raman Nagar, and Whitefield, was least affected with just four complaints, including two cases of waterlogging at Indiranagar 100-ft Road and Kaggadasapura, and a tree branch collapse near KR Puram.While civic staff swung into action to clear the uprooted trees, frustrated residents across the city lamented how every spell of rain turns routine commuting into a nightmare.
