Born and raised in Blue Rapids, he graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000 and pursued his education at Cowley College and Johnson County Community College, focusing on Journalism & Media Communications. Nester's career began in 2002 at Taylor Communications, Inc., where he worked in digital media for KFRM and KCLY. He subsequently joined Dierking Communications, Inc., gaining experience as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. In 2005, Nester joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox, a role he held for 15 years, culminating in the historic Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2020, Nester transitioned to Audacy (formerly Entercom Communications, Inc.), where he is currently involved with 96.5 The Fan, the new flagship station of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network. Throughout his career, Nester has also served as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, overseeing the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and its six radio stations across Kansas.
