Third locker room at Lambeau Field ready to help attract special events

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Lambeau Field is now better equipped to attract special events like college football games, soccer matches, and concerts as the finishing touches are being put on a third locker room.

A tour of the facility was given Monday to the Green Bay-Brown County Professional Football Stadium District Board.

"To be able to show these prospective tenants if you will a space in which they'll be able to be located, it makes it really a big difference," said Aaron Pokey, Packers Director of Public Affairs.

The locker room will include 90 lockers and space for coaches, trainers, and media. It's located on the second level, near the loading dock - an area that used to be roof space.

"It gives us a really top notch space instead of a temporary one that has to be set up and broken down and those sorts of things," said Popkey.

The space will for sure be used in 2026 when Wisconsin and Notre Dame play football at Lambeau.

It could be used a few months earlier as the stadium has been identified as a possible base camp site for a team playing in the FIFA World Cup. Popkey said those talks are ongoing and teams will likely make decisions in the next six to 12 months.

"As the teams have gone through the resources that are available in North America, they can see what is available at Lambeau Field if they want to consider it as a base camp," said Popkey.

So what could be the next construction project at Lambeau Field? You might remember the Packers delayed $80 million of concourse work this past offseason as negotiations continue to extend the lease for Lambeau. The Packers say that doesn't necessarily mean that project is next in line.

"That is certainly something we want to do because what we saw with the upper concourse we'd very much like to do the same with the main concourse," said Popkey. "We'll see where that goes."

The third locker room cost about $5 million. The stadium district paid $2.97 million of that, using ticket tax revenue from Lambeau Field events. The Packers paid the remaining $2 million.

The last special event at Lambeau Field was its first ever soccer match, between FC Bayern Munich and Manchester City on July 23, 2022.
