Dec. 12 -- A Decatur man found dead Wednesday inside a burning home in the 1600-block of Olive Street Southeast has been identified.

Billy Howard White, 69, was located at around 3:45 p.m. in the room where Decatur firefighters believe the blaze started, and he was identified Thursday morning by Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn.

Decatur police and the Alabama Fire Marshal's Office also responded to the scene and began an investigation.

According to Decatur Fire & Rescue, crews found the home under heavy smoke and fire when they arrived. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Chunn said White was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy.
