It's been 22 years since Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony played against each other when both former NBA lottery picks were in high school.
The legacy continues as Kiyan Anthony, ranked No.36 by ESPN alongside No.44 ranked Dylan Mingo and No.97 ranked Nigel James of Long Island Lutheran, faces off against Bryce James (James's second-born child) of Sierra Canyon.
"I played the game directly before Carmelo played LeBron in the Primetime Shootout in 2002," Tim Doyle, a former LuHi player and organizer of the event alongside brother Dan Doyle through their company, GOLD SN, said. "And now, to be promoting a game with their sons and bringing my son to NY to watch the game is pretty full circle."
LuHi (3-2), ranked No.2 by ESPN, will face Sierra Canyon (7-1) at the UBS arena at 8 p,m, Friday in the LuHi Holiday Invitational. According to Doyle, this will be the first time a high school basketball game will be played at the arena.
This will be the second time Sierra Canyon will face LuHi. In their previous meeting, The Crusaders defeated the Trailblazers in an 84-74 victory in which Bronny James, Bryce's older brother, played. The Crusaders were led by Andre Curbelo, who now plays overseas and scored 23 points against the then-star-studded Trailblazers.
However, it won't be the first time the Syracuse commit played against a member of the James family. When Anthony previously attended Christ the King, they faced off against Sierra Canyon, which featured Bronny James in 2022. Christ the King fell to the Trailblazers in a 62-51 loss. Anthony's only basket came from a wide-open three from the corner. This time might be different.
If you can't make the game in person, have no fear. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ at 8 p.m.
Before the LuHi game, Chaminade will face rival Holy Trinity at 6 p.m. If tickets are not sold out, they will be available Friday night.
"It's the first high school game to be played in that arena, so it's an honor to be a part of it," Coach Dan Feeney of Chaminade said." "It's our first league game, and that's how we look at it. We're off to a 0-2 start and want to get our first win, so why not tomorrow?"
