'Not An Investable Business' Namita Thapar Backs Out Of Ragdolls Pitch Backed By Zerodha's Nithin Kamath

In the recent episode of Shark Tank India Season 4, a married couple, Suhas and Suhani, pitched their indigenous ragdoll company, The Good Doll. The firm envisions empowering at least 20,000 rural women through producing sustainable dolls that are also inclusive. The company has backing from the likes of Zerodha's billionaire co-founder, Nithin Kamath. While the sharks were impressed with the vision and mission of the business, they shied away from making any deal. The founders asked for an investment of Rs 50 lakh in exchange for 5% equity. The pitchers made the ask with the company valuation pegged at Rs 10 crore. They also revealed that the ragdoll company previously acquired Rs 40 lakh from Nithin Kamath. The founders also projected a sale of Rs 1.5 crore in this fiscal year.

Reacting to the pitch, Emcure's Namita Thapar suggested the brand embrace storytelling as a marketing tool. She stated, "This is not an investable business, simply because the scale is too small and what you're asking for is too high. As an investor, it's too early right now." Other sharks agreed, including OYO's Ritesh Agarwal, Snapdeal's Kunal Bahl, boAt's Aman Gupta, and Sugar Cosmetics' Vineeta Singh. Vineeta suggested that the brand won't be able to scale itself online as "Sustainability plus inclusivity plus women empowerment is difficult."
