Herbst expects "nothing but a win" as high-flying Bees travel to Newton Abbot

Bridport currently sit in second place with 29 points after their first 11 games in the South West Peninsula League, just two points behind leaders Bovey Tracey.

The Bees are in fine form and haven't dropped points since hosting Stoke Gabriel and Torbay in August. In that time they have only conceded four league goals and have netted a whopping 35 goals including back-to-back 7-0 wins against Teignmouth and Okehampton respectively.

Despite a week's break, Bees manager Chris Herbst said the pause came at a good time with the side struggling with injuries. He said: "It's been a bit of a blessing. We had a few players pick up knocks in the last game but they've come back into training this week so hopefully they will be fit.

"Of course I wanted to just keep playing, playing, playing, but it came at a decent time."

Speaking about what he expects from his side heading to Devon this weekend, Herbst said: "Nothing but a win. The last few games, despite the results, we've not really played that well for instance with one game we won 6-0 but it the result was down to our second half performance.

"We know Newton Abbot will be bang up for it and we have to make sure we keep in touch with Bovey and pull away from the chasing pack."

Meanwhile, Bridport Reserves lost 2-0 last weekend as they hosted Dorchester Sports in Dorset Premier League action.

Dan Sheehy hit the bar for Sports in the first half as the visitors were pushing for an opener. Had it not been for Bees keeper Andy Ennals, the side would have conceded more with two fine saves.

The Bees created their own chances, as the impressive Harry Angel chested and volleyed a shot straight into the gloves of Nick Hutchings, whilst the flicks on from Dan Baggs were not capitalised by the Bridport strikers.

Sports took the lead on the hour mark after a ball found Alex Godfrey in space with Bees defenders unable to engage allowing him to head the ball home. Just 10 minutes later, Sports doubled their lead thanks to a brace from Godfrey after finding himself one on one with the goalkeeper. Dan Baggs dragged a shot wide whilst Ethan Robertson and Callum Arnold also went close late on for Bridport.

Elsewhere, Bridport Women's Team's cup game against Cobham Sports was postponed with the rearranged fixture to take place this Sunday at 1.30pm.
