A flight had to be diverted to Newcastle Airport after a medical emergency on board. The easyJet flight was en-route to Manchester when it was re-routed to Newcastle on Monday evening.
An update on the airline's website said the journey from Copenhagen was being diverted due to a "passenger welfare issue". It added that the "disruption" was "outside of our control and is considered to be an extraordinary circumstance".
On Tuesday, the airline confirmed that the flight was diverted due to "a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention". North East Ambulance Service met the flight at Newcastle Airport shortly before 11pm and one passenger was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI).
Passengers were informed that once the aircraft had been refuelled the flight would resume the planned journey to Manchester, which had been scheduled to land at 10.35pm prior to the incident.
A spokesperson for easyJet said: "Flight EZY2238 from Copenhagen to Manchester on 27 October diverted to Newcastle, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.
"The customer was met by medical services on arrival and the flight continued to Manchester. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 10.33pm on Monday 27 October 2025 to reports of a person unwell at Newcastle Airport. We dispatched an ambulance crew to the scene and transported one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."
