Clarkston captured fifth place and Midland came seventh in Saturday's D1 boys cross country state championship hosted by Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
That marked a solid improvement for both from last year when the Mavs and Wolves finished 11th and 12th, respectively.
Led by junior Brandon Cloud (2nd place), Northville (125 points) repeated as state champs in the boys race thanks to Cloud and two others finishing inside the top-10, which also included Milford senior Kyle O'Rourke, who came fifth (15:00.2). Clarkston finished with 211 points and Milford totaled 224.
Clarkston produced the highest team finish of any Oakland County program. Wolves senior Ryan Barnes took 12th (15:18.8) and classmate David Dubeck wasn't far behind him, ending in 17th (15:24.2).
Also from Oakland County, Evan Owczarek and Dylan Pascoe helped Rochester take 19th place (434 points), Matthew Buchanan paced 23rd-place Oxford (560), Gavin Johns led Lakeland (24th place, 565), and Brady Glon was fastest from Detroit Catholic Central (25th, 569).
Lake Orion senior Max Houvener (19th, 15:31.9) and Troy Athens senior Nathaniel Linden (24th, 15:35.6) picked up all-state honors, while Holly junior Broden Ladd (38th, 15:50.3) wasn't far off.
Rochester Adams junior El McMahan finished fifth place in Saturday's race that was won by Ann Arbor Pioneer sophomore Natasza Dudek, who made headlines by dominating with a state-record time of 16:09.5, beating the previous mark by 23.6 seconds.
McMahan made a big jump from her 50th-place finish as a sophomore and ended with a time of 17:24.3. Not far behind her was Holly junior Maddie Lindley, another standout from the county championship, who came 12th (17:52.9).

Also picking up all-state accolades were Groves freshman Giada Mills (23rd, 18:03.9), Stoney Creek senior Leah Corby (18:04.0), Rochester senior Ella Abraham (27th, 18:09.4), Novi junior Katelynn Egli (29th, 18:12.7) and Rochester sophomore Charlotte Jones (30th, 18:12.8).
Adams as a team took 14th place (353 points). Behind the Highlanders were Novi (16th, 372), Rochester (17th, 382), Lakeland (19th, 431), Clarkston (21st, 449).
Detroit Country Day finished 21st place with 444 points in the D2 race won by Flint Powers Catholic, who edged out East Grand Rapids by eight points.
Yellowjackets junior Omar Elbashir came 44th place with a team-best time of 17:14.5.
Holland Christian and Otsego finished 1-2 in the D2 race that saw Bloomfield Hills Marian take 19th with 455 points.
Junior Lucille Clark produced the best finish of any Mustang, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:58.7.
Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest's Nole Lorenzen cut roughly 20 seconds off his state time last year to finish fifth in the D3 boys final.
The Crusaders sophomore, who took 21st in 2024, followed up with a time of 15:43.6 on Saturday. Charlevoix's Hunter Eaton won with a mark of 15:30.8.
Royal Oak Shrine senior Abenezer Cerone was the third-fastest runner in the D4 boys race, part of a successful day for his team.
Shrine equaled its team finish of fifth place from last fall, ending with 205 points in the performance led by Cerone (15:47.7) and Knights senior Michael Bowker (16:56.5), who cut about 50 seconds off his previous showing at MIS.
Novi Christian Academy senior Reuben Jiran came in 29th with a mark of 16:49.7 to collect an all-state nod.
In a race won by Whitmore Lake, Shrine came 17th (419 points), Novi Christian Academy took 21st (487) and Southfield Christian finished 26th (651).
Knights sophomore Ella Lamb was all-state with her time of 19:54.6, good for 18th place. Junior Evelyn McIndoe (21:59.6) had the best time from NCA and Caramia DeGiulio (22:44.1) led the effort by Southfield Christian.
