What's Bold Bucs Plan to Win Close Games

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 4-6 and on their bye week, so they can feel reasonably content with their season's work.

That might seem strange, but the Buccaneers have been in most games this season, with four of their six losses being by one score. Additionally, Tampa Bay's last three straight losses have been by one score, and that's with an injury-depleted team.

The bye week has perhaps come at the right time for head coach Todd Bowles and his team, with a chance to get back a host of players battling injuries, which will hopefully see the arrow begin trending in the right direction.

But Bowles knows how his team can flip the script and have those close losses turn into wins.

"It's all about focusing on the little things, what we didn't do to win the game," Bowles said. "When you lose a close game like that, hardly ever the other team beats you, we lost a couple games that we did some things at the end, and we did them last year as well but we got to focus on little things and correct those things in the second half of the season for us to win these games.

"We're in every ball game regardless of who's playing whether they're injured, whether they're starters, whether they're healthy. We're in every ball game, we have a chance to win every ball game ... we got to cut out the little mistakes for us to win those ball games."

The Buccaneers are close, make no mistake about it, but they have hurt themselves in crucial situations, and had a bounce of the ball gone one way or a key decision went another, then their season outlook might look vastly different.

But that's where they sit, knowing that it is the little things they must improve on during the bye week in an attempt to get their season back on track.

With a favorable schedule after the bye with the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers up first, Tampa Bay can get some positive momentum going as it looks to attack the second half of the season.

And armed with the knowledge that if they fix the little things, this Buccaneers team could come home with a wet sail and make a barnstorming run for the playoffs.
