Severe thunderstorms, flash flood threat, high winds in N.J. forecast for Saturday

A powerful cold front is expected to sweep across New Jersey on Saturday, bringing a risk of severe thunderstorms and potential damaging winds.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for storms to develop Saturday afternoon and evening, particularly for areas near and northwest of the I-95 corridor.

The storms are anticipated to form as temperatures climb into the 80s, with some areas potentially reaching near 90 degrees.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of New Jersey in a slight risk for severe weather, with the primary threat being damaging winds.

Rainfall could be intense, with potential precipitation rates of 1-2 inches per hour.

While a flash flood watch has not been issued, some areas may experience localized flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas.

The storms are expected to develop first in eastern Pennsylvania and then spread southeast into New Jersey during the evening hours.

The cold front will move offshore early Sunday, bringing a significant temperature drop.

Sunday's high temperatures will only reach the low to mid-70s, with clouds slowly clearing throughout the day.

By Sunday night, Canadian high pressure will build into the region, ushering in a cooler and drier weather pattern.

The upcoming week will feature seasonably cool temperatures, with highs remaining in the 70s and lows in the 40s and 50s.

A brief warm-up is expected on Thursday, with temperatures potentially reaching the low 80s before another cold front arrives Friday.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware Saturday, have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings, and be prepared for potential power outages or wind damage.
