The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has introduced the Driver Safety Index (DSI) a new AI-driven tool designed to help organizations worldwide measure and compare driver risk in a consistent, data-backed manner. Launched at the FIA Asia Pacific Congress in Thailand, the subscription-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform marks a major step toward improving global road safety standards.
Developed in partnership with Greater Than, a Swedish AI risk intelligence company, the FIA DSI uses over two decades of real-world driving data to assess crash probability through GPS analysis. The system produces a universal safety score that allows public and private organizations to evaluate driver risk across industries, regions, and vehicle types. Users can access both a Global Index and their own performance index, helping them track safety outcomes, identify risks, and apply best practices to reduce accidents and injuries.
According to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, this new solution "gives organizations a universal language to measure and compare driver risk," enabling confident, data-led actions to lower road fatalities and injuries. Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Sustainability, added that the DSI promotes "data-driven insights and behavioral change" and evolves continually to support safer, more sustainable mobility.
Greater Than's AI technology underpins the DSI's predictive capabilities, offering organizations a new level of accountability and transparency that aligns with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. The FIA DSI complements the federation's other road safety initiatives such as the FIA Road Safety Index and the FIA Smart Driving Challenge, reinforcing its global commitment to safer roads.
Through this initiative, the FIA aims to unify global efforts in road safety by providing a powerful, standardized tool that helps organizations turn data into meaningful action -- making roads safer for everyone, everywhere.
