Chargers sign huge Super Bowl champion to join Joe Alt and protect Justin Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers' offensive line just got bigger and better.

After watching Joe Alt star as a rookie after being taken in the first round, L.A. has signed another first-rounder to help protect Justin Herbert.

This former first-rounder happens to be a Super Bowl champion, too. It's offensive guard Mekhi Becton, who was once viewed as a bit of a New York Jets bust before putting together the best season of his career in 2024 and winning a ring with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He started 30 games in four seasons with the Jets, missing almost two entire seasons with a knee injury.

Becton then joined the Eagles for the 2024 season and started 15 games and then onward into the playoffs and through the Super Bowl.

Pro Football Focus rated Becton as the 21st out of 135 offensive guards in the 2024 season.

Becton also has experience at tackle, which would help in the case of an injury to right tackle Alt or left tackle Rashawn Slater. But if everyone's healthy, Jim Harbaugh has an even more imposing offensive line to lead his offense with.
