Johor police issue 968 summonses for traffic offences under Op Lancar

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 20 -- A total of 968 summonses were issued by the Johor police to motorists for various traffic offences during Op Lancar carried out since yesterday in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations.

State police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said 26 motorists, aged 15 to 46, were detained, including for drug offences, and 165 motorcycles and five cars were seized.

The summonses were issued for offences which included dangerous driving, driving/ riding without a valid licence and illegal modification of vehicles, he told a press conference at the Johor Causeway, here today.

He said a total of 5,000 vehicles, including 2,244 motorcycles and 2,181 cars, were inspected during the operation.

Meanwhile, Ab Rahaman said a total of 1,238 police officers were mobilised to intensify patrols and enforcement, including for Op Lancar, until this Wednesday in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.

He said the operation was carried out with the cooperation of various agencies, including the Road Transport Department, the Department of Environment, local government authorities, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the Malaysian Volunteers Department (Rela). -- Bernama
