Strictly star praised for 'perfect Rumba' as fans hail 'stunning' dance

Alex Kingston was told she performed the 'perfect Rumba' after a stellar performance in week four of the BBC show.

The actress and partner Johannes Radebe performed their Rumba to Fast Car by Tracy Chapman and left the judges and viewers in awe.

Their dance saw the pair's highest score of the series so far, with 36.

Fans were left shocked after Shirley Ballas often scored the dance a 10, which was the first time the style had received a perfect score in week four.

Following her dance, they got a standing ovation from the crowd and Shirley, who left the desk to come and give Alex more praise and feedback in front of her on the floor.

She said: "In all my time in Strictly, I have never seen a pair of legs work like that... a perfect routine."

Fellow judge Anton Du Beke also came down to the floor and shook Alex's hand to say well done.

Shirley scored the dance a perfect 10, which Claudia Winkleman later revealed was the first time a Rumba had been given a top score on week four.

Fans of the show were going crazy on X, formerly Twitter, following the actress' success.

One said: "Alex Kingston winner of Strictly 2025. THAT RUMBA."

Another wrote: "That Johannes Radebe and Alex Kingston performance was simply wondrous. The most graceful bloke on the planet with a wonderful partner. A dream team."

A third viewer said: "WOW! Bloody hell Alex and Johannes that was absolutely phenomenal. I loved it all. You were in the moment and it's a 10 from me, you look amazing, WELL DONE."

Alex Kingston's success came after the Strictly Come Dancing star opened up on a secret cancer battle last year and how she is now in recovery after the ordeal.

The former ER and Doctor Who star revealed she was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2024 before undergoing a hysterectomy and radiation therapy.

She told The Independent newspaper: "I had a major operation. I had to have a hysterectomy, I had to go into radiation therapy, and that took up a huge part of my life ...

"I had assumed that the way I was feeling was old age, and I just sort of accepted it. I thought: 'OK, this is what it's like to be in my sixties.' But a lot of how I was feeling was to do with my illness.

"I never went down the cancer road in my head. It was a shock, because I have a very positive outlook on life in general.

"Even though my body was telling me there was something very seriously wrong, I kept thinking: 'Oh, I've got a bad UTI or fibroids'."

The actress waited until her run in the play was over before seeking medical treatment and was told doctors found cancer in her fallopian tubes, but it hadn't spread to her ovaries.

After undergoing the hysterectomy and a course of radiation therapy, she says she now feels better than she has in years.

She also advised others to talk to a doctor about any mysterious symptoms because early intervention could save lives.

Alex said: "Womb cancer is really tricky because it is so sneaky. What I would say is, the body does know - and that was the body saying to me: 'Help! There's something really wrong."

'It's so important to seek advice and have a check-up."
