Travis Hunter final stats: Snap count on offense, defense in NFL debut for Jaguars

Few NFL debuts have been as anticipated as that of Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter.

After taking college football by storm as a two-way star at Jackson State and Colorado, Hunter made his foray into largely uncharted waters as a wide receiver and cornerback with Jacksonville. Up first? A 26-10 win over the Carolina Panthers.

After an undisclosed upper-body injury limited Hunter during the preseason, there were plenty of eyes on Hunter's Week 1 workload. Of course, the easiest metric to measure the workload of a two-way player is their snap count.

For now, Jacksonville has made it clear that Hunter will be playing considerably more on the offensive end than he will on defense. Reports indicated that his workload would be 80-20 offense-defense, but in Week 1, it was closer to 90-10.

As Hunter began his NFL career, The Sporting News tracked his snap count and performance against the Panthers. Here is everything from his first-ever performance on an NFL field.

4:58 p.m.: The Panthers score their first TD of the game, and Travis Hunter has not picked up many more reps on the defensive end.

Jacksonville is looking to be very intentional about easing Hunter into a larger defensive workload.

Jaguars 23, Panthers 10

4:08 p.m.: Travis Hunter doesn't see any defensive snaps to begin the second half, but he does get back on the field as Jacksonville goes three-and-out on its first offensive possession of the third quarter.

3:26 p.m.: The Jaguars don't use Travis Hunter on the ensuing offensive drive but they pick up seven points courtesy of a nifty play to Brian Thomas Jr. Hunter was, however, the first person to celebrate with Thomas on the sideline.

Jaguars 17, Panthers 3

3:12 p.m.: Travis Hunter's first defensive snap comes over 22 minutes into the action, as he lines up at corner following the weather delay.

Hunter saw action on second and third down, where he allowed a catch to Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan.

2:55 p.m.: Teams have returned to the field to warm-up and action is set to resume within the next 20 minutes.

1:51 p.m.: After an interception sets the Jaguars up with ideal field position, Travis Hunter's fourth catch comes in the red zone.

He picks up four yards on 1st-and-goal from the Panthers' 10-yard line. Hunter's catch set up a Jaguars touchdown on second-and-goal.

Jaguars 10, Panthers 3

1:38 p.m.: Hunter's third reception is for negative yardage as he loses two yards on third-and-3.

He picked up an additional three snaps, but the Jaguars go three-and-out this time as the Panthers' defense gets off the field.

1:31 p.m.: Jacksonville's first time out on defense ends with Travis Hunter seeing no snaps.

Pregame reporting indicated that Hunter would play 80 percent of his snaps on offense and 20 percent on defense, and his non-existent workload on defense in the first quarter supports those reports.

1:16 p.m.: Travis Hunter's second catch comes in a similar situation, as he picked up 10 yards on second-and-22.

Trevor Lawrence may have a new favorite target on second-and-long.

And when he's on offense, he'll be lined up in the slot, according to Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer.

11:15 a.m.: New league, new look.

Travis Hunter is debuting a fresh haircut for the first game of his NFL career.

Jaguars vs. Panthers will kick off around 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 6. The game will be played at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jaguars vs. Panthers will air on Fox. Chris Myers will handle play-by-play duties alongside analyst Mark Schlereth, while Jen Hale will report from the sidelines.
