Drama unfolded in Spaldings as alleged would-be robbers begged for their lives on Instagram Live.
Chaos erupted in Spaldings, on the Manchester-Clarendon border yesterday when four men, allegedly part of a gang of robbers, found themselves cornered in the storeroom of a supermarket during a brazen heist.
With the security forces closing in, the attempted robbery spiralled into a dramatic stand-off, complete with gunfire, hostages, and a desperate plea streamed live on social media.
The suspects, who had reportedly locked themselves in the storeroom, were swiftly surrounded by police. As the situation intensified, one of the men began live-streaming on Instagram, pleading to viewers and law enforcement to spare their lives. The tension was palpable as the would-be robber, voice trembling, made an emotional appeal.
"We want surrender but ... we never plan fi do nothing. Better life we want, enuh. Better life we want ... . A college me a go, enuh. Tru you nuh know, tru the ting set a way," he confessed, his words laced with regret and desperation.
Another accomplice chimed in, his voice shaking: "Never did a expect fi deh ya so."
Viewers of the live-stream were stunned as the men pleaded for mercy. "Officer, we unarmed ... . Unu, share the live. Officer we want surrender ... . Squaddy, unuh win, mon," one of the men implored, even urging his wounded accomplice to show the severity of his gunshot injury.
The alleged robbers' pleas turned frantic as they begged for their lives. "Try get to them (the police) ... . We surrender. Do! Nuh mek dem kill we," one of the men cried out, his voice raw with fear.
Outside the storeroom, the police, undeterred, hammered on the metal door until they breached it. Inside, they reportedly discovered four illegal firearms, including a powerful AK-47 assault rifle.
Earlier, an intense gunfight had erupted between the police and the alleged robbers, leaving two cops injured.
