A festive fun run is set to return to Ulverston this winter to raise funds and awareness for mental health.
The Mental Elf 5k family fun run, organised by Mind in Furness, will take place on Sunday, December 14 at Ford Park in the South Cumbrian town.
Open to all ages and abilities, the event encourages participants to walk, jog, or run the route.
Karen Dobson, chief executive officer at Mind in Furness, said: "We're proud to be hosting Mental Elf again following the overwhelming support and positive feedback about last year's event.
"Running or walking can help us switch off from everyday pressures, relieve stress and give us time to clear our heads."
The fun run aims to raise funds and awareness for mental health while highlighting the benefits of physical activity, social connection, and community.
Ms Dobson said: "When you exercise, you release 'feel-good' hormones called endorphins which can help reduce negative feelings and improve your mood.
"It's a natural way of reducing levels of cortisol, often known as the 'stress hormone,' which has been linked to a range of mental health problems, including depression and anxiety.
"Physical activity such as walking or running has been found to help improve mood and sleep and can also play a key role in recovery from a mental health problem.
"Joining one of these fun, inclusive 5k family fun runs is a great opportunity to boost your mental and physical health while also raising vital funds to help us in our fight to make sure everyone in Furness with a mental health problem gets the support and respect that they deserve."
This year's event promises a day of festive activities, including a welcome warm up, fancy dress competitions, a raffle, and a fundraiser draw.
All participants will receive a goodie bag with an exclusive Mental Elf medal, and every runner and volunteer will also receive a National Trust Family Pass voucher.
The pass admits two adults and up to six children to National Trust sites such as Acorn Bank, Hill Top, and Sizergh.
The event will also feature appearances from Ulverston town mayor Shirley-Ann Wilson, town crier Peter Winston, musician Cee-Jay, and teams from event sponsors Siemens Energy and Mott MacDonald.
Coach Potato from Full of Noises will also make a special appearance.
Ms Dobson said: "We are thankful to have the support of Siemens Energy and Mott MacDonald for the event as well as a team of dedicated volunteers to help make the event possible on the day."
