Flash Flood Watch Extended Until Noon

Flash Flood Watch Extended Until Noon

BASSETERRE: The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the St. Kitts Meteorological Office have extended the Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas in St. Kitts and Nevis until 12 noon on Friday, October 17th, 2025. Officials warn that further extensions may be necessary depending on weather conditions.

A Flash Flood Watch indicates that moderate to major flooding is possible, though not imminent, within the affected areas. The persistent threat has prompted authorities to urge residents to remain vigilant and prepared.

Residents and citizens living in vulnerable low-lying and flood-prone zones are strongly advised to make immediate preparations to safeguard both life and property. Officials emphasize the importance of being ready to relocate to higher ground should flooding rains develop or if the watch is upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning.

Motorists are instructed to avoid parking in known waterways and ghauts. Drivers should exercise extreme caution when navigating roadways where high water levels have accumulated or standing water is present. Authorities strictly warn against crossing flooded areas either in vehicles or on foot, as even shallow moving water can pose deadly risks.

NEMA continues to stress the importance of public preparedness, encouraging all residents to stay informed through official channels and practice safe weather protocols throughout the extended watch period.

The agency's message remains clear: preparation and caution are essential to weathering this storm safely.
